aches n pains

started well, lovely evening, hadn't done much in the daytime although hadn't eaten alot, felt quite good but once i had turned around at Plumpton my ITB started aching and it didnt really lay off and had to stop a few times to stretch outm thing is as soon as i stop running the pain goes so i start again and we are back to square one.
I have read that downhill running causes it as does distance changes when i come back its pretty much all downhill so it not surprising really.
1.07.

I had forgot that I had skated and decided after work I would run, it was after all the summer solstice. this time instead of go ing to the `gate` or to Black cap that I would combine the two (run to black cap then on to the gate, basically its up the steep(ish) hill to Black cap then on to the gate some 100 yards further, I felt good and even though it was 9pm still light! There were even some people up on black-cap doing the solstice thing, well I did both! got back in 43.46 which is pretty good.

adendum

ive been over the weeks increasing my pushups and now ive got it up to 100 so basically i do that on alternating days, for core strength etc.

three run update

have been a bit slack on the blog, I`ve ran three times since my last post.
Briefly.. ran to the `gate` which is about 200 yards further than black cap cant remember the times of the last two but i ran 43.07 which isn't bad oh yeah the last run a ran a bit fast cos i had someone behind me and the old competitive head came into play..and i paid for it towards the end of the run!

warm atlast!

went for a lovely evening run over the South Downs, sun was shining and it getting warm, no aches or pains and this was after i had cycled into town and back and cut the massive back lawn with a pretty much knackered mower, happy days!

44 mins for the run incidentally.

I.T.B

My ITB always reminds me that im doing to much, well i did yesterday, full days work, cycled then went for a run on the Downs, then it got dark on the way back so maybe not my best decision ive made! Also my watch battery ran out mid run! so no idea of the time. (Not that it mattered)
so I had a very cold bath so much so that my feet were in agony, but it does the trick , seriously, its a revelation to me.
Rest today!

another go

well i wasnt working today which is annoying but to counter that i decided to run again. Today the hill that goes up to the turn-a-round point which i usually walk up i ran and it was bloody hard and it meant i shaved a whole minute off the run .. but thats wierd cos i usually complete the run in 40 mins and i started my stopwatch about a minute and a half late! Anyway its not about `time` and i dont want to get caught up in that yet.

bike

out for a blast on the beast, in terms of cycling my legs feel great.

tuesday

very sunny, very cold but felt pretty good. Did the run in 40 mins, not pushing it, less stretching mid point and fingers crossed went well, very cold bath as ever.

downs run

Well I wasn't planning to run today but it was sunny (cold though)but as I had no work I felt suitable rested.. who am I trying to con eh? Anyway I took it easy because of the impeding aching knee from my last run but lo it didn't rear its ugly head the run was 45 mins and when I got back I had the cold bath which tbh is a revelation .. off to bed.

getting on

went out on the same downland run, quite a busy day but it was very sunny and I thought I would take it easy and enjoy the evening run.
As it turned out i felt quite strong and I needed to stop even less than the previous run only occasionally walking. Towards the very end I started getting a pain in the back of my right knee so I stretched a bit and it went but I will keep one eye on it. Ate noodles and fish and protein drink etc.

I lied

ok .. the endorphines lured me out for another 5 miler same course as the first, very tentative but went ok.
Unfortunately i forgot my watch so only have an approximation of the time it was about an hour so a similar time BUT I`m not actually going for `times` so its unimportant. (at the moment).
It was a pretty much 60/40 run walk but like i said its over rough terrain and a hard chalk surface. Suffice to say I`m knackered.

rest(ish)

trying to rest so i can run on monday or tuesday work permitting, I did pop out for a short jaunt on my bike and play a little footie with my son but other than that trying to recuperate.
Its the London marathon tommorow 24/4/10 so that with provide lots of encouragement, although i dont think i will ever do a marathon, honestly.

starter runner

ok first of all my time for the run yesterday which i forgot to say was 56 mins.

Today my legs do ache but i think the cold bath did the trick, i even went out for a short cycle, in very low gears.. i feel good but the temptation is to go out again but im going to fight it `til atleast monday! which is four days from now.

first run

decided that today I would start my running, after a break of 8 years, I do cycle but thats all.
I live in the south downs so its pretty easy to decide where to run.
Chalk is very hard and not really the same as running off road, more like running on the road just unstable with lots of flints but saying that a million times better than road running, just keep one eye on the track.
The run starts at Lewes Race course, the walk up to it from my house forms part of the warm up.
Istarted running very tentatively and at 6 minutes my knee hurt alot and i thought i would have to stop but i did some hurdlers stretch which works well for me and i continued... I walked a bit and ran some more was overtaken by some MTBR`s and contiuned to my turnaround point.
I rested for about 4 mins then ran back.
I watched Eddy Izzard run all those marathons what i got from that was the cold bath thing which I did and it works! Not the nicest experience but worth the pain.. (you dont have to use ice water, just cold)
